  <dc:description>Originally issued in 42 cahiers of 24 hand-colored
plates each, with no accompanying text or titles. Known also as
"Daubenton's Planches enlumin&#xE9;es" and as "Buffon's Planches
enlumin&#xE9;es", since they were produced at Buffon's instigation for
his Histoire naturelle. Of the 1008 plates, 35 are of other animals besides
birds (28 insects, 3 reptiles &amp; amphibians, 4
corals).</dc:description>

under the supervision of E.L. Daubenton ('D le cadet'), who was a relation
